I’ve only just read about this after seeing a friend’s post on Facebook, so I apologize for the tardiness, but the Caravana Musical Solidaria “Hoy Por Joshelín” — taking place this Thursday, August 14 — is something people should know about for two very good reasons.
Firstly, the concert will feature some well-known and very talented local acts, a few of which I’ve seen before. Here’s the full line-up:
- Mermelada Pesada
- Yerba Fresca
- Los Raffa’s
- Irma Carbajal Paredes
- Gravedad Zero
- Jóvenes Adolescentes
- Los Vaqueros
- Son de Jah
- La Banda Stone
- Reyes Dance
- Blue Dance
- El Show de Iris
To be honest, looking down the list I’m not even sure if they are all bands, but we’ll soon see.
The second and most important reason to attend this musical event, which will take place on the Plaza de Armas from 8 a.m. until late (presumably), is to help José “Joshelín” Reátegui.
Joshelín, originally from Lamas, is one of the most recognized singer/songwriters from the San Martín region, with a number of hits under his belt from the 1970s to the present day.
Sadly, Joshelín has now been hospitalized in Lima for more than two months, suffering from what is typically a common digestive disease called diverticulitis. Presumably, his case has been subject to complications. According to a report by Voces, he and his family have now run out of funds, and the situation is becoming worse each day.
Rallying around their fellow musician, local bands and artists are hoping to help Joshelín and his family with the concert to be held on Thursday.
I assume the concert will be free because of the Plaza de Armas venue, so I’m guessing the event organizers will be taking donations on the day. If anybody has any more details, feel free to leave them in the comments section below. You can also keep up with the latest news at the Facebook event page.
